Spots of Concern

Have you noticed a mole or spot that is new, changing, itching, bleeding or just doesn't look right? Trust your instincts and have it checked. Warning signs of skin cancer include the "ABCDEs":

  • Asymmetry: one half doesn't match the other

  • Border: irregular, ragged or blurred edges

  • Color: uneven shades of brown, black, red, white or blue

  • Diameter: larger than a pencil eraser

  • Evolving: any change in size, shape or color

Wendi Schulze, MSN, DCNP-C, examines each spot closely with dermoscopy, a magnified light that reveals details not visible to the naked eye. If a spot looks concerning, a biopsy can usually be done the same day. Results are typically ready within 7–10 days, and we'll call you to discuss them and any next steps.
