Hair Loss
Hair thinning and shedding can be distressing, and there are many possible causes: genetics (male- and female-pattern hair loss), stress, illness or childbirth (telogen effluvium), hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid problems, and autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata.
Your evaluation includes a close look at the scalp and hair, a review of your health history and, when helpful, blood work. Because the right treatment depends on the cause, your plan is tailored to you and may include:
Topical therapies: medicated solutions and foams, such as minoxidil, applied to the scalp to slow shedding and support regrowth
Oral medications, when appropriate
In-office injections for conditions such as alopecia areata
Supplements to correct deficiencies that affect hair growth
Capillus laser cap: an FDA-cleared, low-level laser therapy cap worn at home for a few minutes a day to stimulate hair follicles and promote thicker, fuller-looking hair. Available for purchase in our office.
Hair grows slowly, so most treatments take 3–6 months to show results. Early treatment often gives the best outcome.
